Venepuncture and Cannulation are commonly performed procedures in Healthcare. To perform these procedures well and to a safe standard it requires staff to have relevant and up-to-date knowledge and skills. This Venepuncture and Cannulation Training will help you acquire both theoretical and practical phlebotomy skills that will aid you in installing the cannula and collecting blood samples effectively and safely.
During the course you will gain an understanding of the below:
  • Know which veins to use for cannulation
  • Demonstrate the legal aspects of venepuncture and cannulation
  • Gain knowledge about peripheral cannula and venepuncture
  • Learn about the anatomy and physiology of the hands and arms.
  • Become familiar with the various cannula sizes
  • Gain knowledge about the risks associated with cannulation
  • Discover how to choose the appropriate cannulation equipment
  • Learn how to properly place the cannula.
  • Gain knowledge about the precautions that must be taken
  • Learn how to remove and clean a cannula properly.
  • Become familiar with dressing conventions
  • Implement appropriate disposal methods for sharps
