Did you know that Direct Medics offer free accredited in-house training to all of our candidates? We currently provide Basic Life Support with Falls Prevention and Manual Handling Training and also Safety Intervention Foundation, Advanced and Refresher Training.

Aswell as free training, lunch is also provided on the day so make sure to avail of this unique CPD benefit available exclusively to Direct Medics candidates.

Below is an overview of our current courses and their content:

Accredited in-house Training

Safety Intervention training

All our Safety Intervention courses are CPI accredited and taken by our in house certified trainer, Johnny Boyle. For this course we have three different types;

  • Foundation (1 day course)
  • Foundation, Advanced and Emergency (3 day course)
  • Refresher Foundation, Advanced and Emergency (1 day course)

Foundation, Advanced and Emergency (3 day course)

Safety Intervention Foundation, Advanced & Emergency Training is designed for organizations and professionals that support individuals who are more likely to demonstrate more complex or extreme risk behaviours. It provides effective tools and decision-making skills to help staff manage higher risk situations, offering a wider array of verbal and physical intervention options.

  • Day One (Foundation)
  • Trauma-informed training.
  • Prevention and verbal de-escalation skills.
  • Disengagement safety techniques.
  • Risk assessment framework.
  • Physical intervention techniques.
  • Day Two (Advanced)
  • Additional non-restrictive and restrictive interventions for risk behaviour.
  • Expanded decision-making skills.
  • Introduces the Brosett Violence Checklist.
  • Day Three (Emergency)
  • All expanded content of the Advanced Programme.
  • Explicit focus on safety intervention for extreme risk behaviour (including floor holding and other emergency interventions).

Refresher Foundation, Advanced and Emergency (1 day course)

This one day Refresher Course is only available to candidates who have previously completed the Safety Intervention Foundation, Advanced & Emergency training course within the last year.

Recommended For: Staff who work in environments that require more advanced skills and restrictive or physical intervention techniques who are required to attend CPI Safety Intervention training on an annual basis to refresh their knowledge and skills.

Foundation (1 day course)

Programme Features:
> Trauma-informed training.
> Prevention and verbal de-escalation skills.
> Disengagement safety techniques.
> Risk assessment framework.
> Physical intervention techniques.

Recommended For: Professionals who work in environments that require restrictive or physical intervention techniques.

Basic Life Support, with Falls Prevention and Manual Handling

Our Basic Life Support course is also taken by our accredited in-house trainers, Johnny Boyle and Kate Kingston.

Basic Life Support

> Knowing what action should be taken in the event of an emergency occurring at work
> Has been taught and practiced cardiopulmonary resuscitation methods
> Has been taught and practiced dealing with an unconscious casualty
> Has been taught and practiced with regard to correct AED use
> Knowing the correct actions to take with regard to control of wounds and bleeding
> Knowing the action to take on a range of other first aid situations
> Knowing how first aid stocks should be maintained and the contents of boxes

Manual Handling
> Manual handling (The Legal Aspects)
> The body and what can go wrong during manual handling
> Principles of safe moving & handling
> In-house policy and assessments
> Practical training and competency assessment of various manoeuvres used in the workplace

Prevention of Falls
> What is meant by falls in the work place
> The costs associated with falls in the work place
> The key legislation relating to falls in the work place
> Hazard analysis and risk assessment in relation to falls
> Methods of falls management and prevention
