About Our Trainer

Johnny Boyle joined Direct Medics in 2022 as our first in-house trainer. Johnny has an outstanding 20 years of General and Mental Health Nursing experience, alongside delivering both Basic Life Support and Safety Intervention training to our candidates now for a number of years.

About Safety Intervention Training

Our CPI Accredited Safety Intervention Training is broken down into three different class offerings dependent on the candidate’s requirements. Below are the details of what each course entails;

1 Day Foundation Training

This one day course consists of basic theory for low level risk areas such as nursing homes or dementia units. All nurses and healthcare assistants in the Republic of Ireland are required to have this level of training, even if they’re not working in mental health areas.

3 Day Foundation, Advanced and Emergency Skills Training

Safety Intervention Foundation, Advanced & Emergency Training is designed for organisations and professionals that support individuals who are more likely to demonstrate more complex or extreme risk behaviours. It provides effective tools and decision-making skills to help staff manage higher risk situations, offering a wider array of verbal and physical intervention options. This is the gold standard for our Mental Health, Learning Disability and Psychiatry Nurses.

This course covers all the elements of the foundation course and expands into advanced and emergency skills over 3 days. Below is the details of what this course entails:

Programme Features of Advanced:
> Additional non-restrictive and restrictive interventions for risk behaviour.
> Expanded decision-making skills.
> Introduces the Brosett Violence Checklist.

Programme Features of Advanced & Emergency:
> All expanded content of the Advanced Programme.
> Explicit focus on safety intervention for extreme risk behaviour (including floor holding and other emergency interventions).

1 Day Advanced and Emergency Skills, Refresher Training

This 1 Day Refresher Course is only available to candidates who have previously completed the 3 day Foundation, Advanced and Emergency skills training within the last year. This course is recommended for our candidates that require more advanced skills and restrictive or physical intervention techniques and who are required to attend CPI Safety Intervention training on an annual basis to refresh their knowledge and skills.
