Every year on May 12th, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth, the world observes International Nurses Day. First celebrated in the year 1965, International Nurses Day marks the importance of nurses all over the world and recognises nurses for their commitment to medical health and service. The day also commemorates Florence Nightingale who is widely regarded as the founder of modern nursing.
The International Council of Nurses (ICN) honours this important day each year with the production and distribution of the International Nurses’ Day (IND) resources and evidence.
The theme for the 2021 resource is “Nurses: A Voice to Lead – A vision for future healthcare” which seeks to show how nursing will look into the future as well as how the profession will transform the next stage of healthcare.
You can view a variety of key resources on this year’s theme by visiting the ICN website here.

On this day we want to pay tribute to the Nursing Profession and thank you for the vital role you play in our healthcare systems.
